Bahrain’s school athletics team for people with disabilities has intensified preparations ahead of the International School Games (Bahrain 2024), which the Kingdom will host from October 23 to 31 under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain. The training programme involves daily sessions on the outdoor track at the Isa bin Rashid Sports Halls Complex in Riffa, along with gym sessions to enhance technical skills and physical fitness ahead of the competitions.
Under the supervision of specialised trainers, the team focuses on improving the athletes’ technical and physical performance while also preparing them psychologically for the challenges they will face during the tournament. Team spirit and cooperation are being reinforced to ensure all members are ready to compete at their best.
Eman Hassan, Technical Director of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee, expressed optimism about the team’s preparations. She highlighted the importance of the support provided by the authorities and local community for athletes with disabilities. She noted that the tournament offers an important opportunity to showcase the athletes’ achievements and raise awareness about their abilities in the Paralympic field.
Eman further explained that the key goals of this participation are to gain experience, identify emerging Bahraini talent in the sport, and compete for medals. The readiness of the national team and the preparations already underway make Bahrain well-positioned to perform well in the Games.
The team’s organisers are working hard to provide everything the athletes need to ensure their comfort, which will help deliver a strong performance during the competitions. With the wide participation expected from various countries, the athletes will also have the chance to exchange experiences and learn from their international counterparts.
